FAQs

Q
Where should I start?
A:
The best place to start is the tutorial. Or, if you want to dive straight into the graphs, start with the graph library.

Q
How do I use the website?
A:
A: The best place to start is the tutorial. In addition, most features in the graph tools and icons have popup explanations. Simply hover over a label/icon to receive additional help.

Q
I want to use the graphs outside of the website (i.e. export the graphs) - what can I do and what can't I do?
A:
Currently, we provide a print button on the graph pages so that you can print only the graph elements of the page. You can use this to print to PDF if you wish. In future updates we intend to add a function so you can export the charts as an image (e.g. JPG).

Q
The website is displaying incorrectly, what should I do?
A:
While we have made all efforts to support all browsers, we recommend that you use the latest version of Firefox or Chrome to browse the website. This should solve any display issues. Please note that the website is not compatible with Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) and below. Failing that, please report the problem.

Q
I have to scroll up and down between the graph and tools. Is there any way around this?
A:
The easiest way to display both is to have a higher resolution screen (we recommend a screen of 1080x1920 pixels for the best experience). If you have a lower resolution screen you can use the browser zoom function. On most browsers, simply hold down the "Ctrl" button, and use the wheel on top of the mouse to zoom in and out. Otherwise, you will have to scroll between the tools and graph.

Q
What does the HPA do with my account data?
A:
Your account data is stored securely on our server. We do not give the data to any other party. We may use some data for quality control purposes to improve the functionality of the website.

Q
Do I have to create an account?
A:
No, you do not need an account. You can freely access any information on the site without an account. Having an account allows you to access additional features, such as bookmarks, custom default filters and the ability to change the site colour palette (these features will be added in future updates to the site). The account functionality lets us keep track of your default settings.

Q
Can I use the graphs made on the website in my publications etc.?
A:
Yes. We provide access to the data under a Creative Commons Licence.

Q
Where can I find more information about the tobacco control sector in New Zealand?
A:

Q
I have a problem with the website, how can report the issue?
A:
Please report the problem and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Q
I think the website should include a few additional features, how can I discuss these with you?
A:
If you have any comments/suggestions, we would appreciate it if you leave your feedback.

Q
How did you select the data contained in this repository?
A:
We aim to include all major sources of tobacco control data in the repository. We will continue to add data to the website as we gain access to additional data.

Q
I/my organisation have data I would like to include in the respository. What should I do?
A:
Please contact us so we can discuss adding your data to the repository.

Q
The download button causes the browser to download a file called “download”. What can I do?
A:
Browsers handle downloads differently – In Firefox, the file should simply download as a .csv file (comma separated file). If you just have “download” file, please add a “.csv” extension, so the file name reads “download.csv”. Then you should be able to open the file and use the data.
